OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Fifth year Sun Devil Hockey graduate students Jacob Wilson and Colin Theisen are candidates for the 2021-22 Senior CLASS Award®. Twenty of the top NCAA® men's ice hockey student-athletes, who excel both on and off the ice, have been selected as candidates for the award on Wednesday morning.
JACOB WILSON
Senior Class Profile
Classroom: Wilson graduated last spring with degrees in both finance and business entrepreneurship. He maintained a 3.82 GPA at Arizona State and was named an AHCA Krampade All-American Scholar for the fourth-time last summer. Wilson is currently working on a Master's in Legal Studies, which he started this fall.
Character: Wilson has spent three seasons in Arizona State's captain leadership group. He was an alternate captain in his junior season and is now in his second consecutive season serving as captain after being elevated to the position.
Community: Wilson's leadership extends outside of the Sun Devils' team. He participates in Tip of the Fork, which is Arizona State's student-athlete leadership program. It's designed to acknowledge and develop the most excelling Sun Devil student-athletes into transformative leaders. Through the leadership group, student-athletes are able to creatively harness their knowledge and skills to make a positive, meaningful contribution to the Tempe community and society at large.
Competition: As of this publication, Wilson has now played in 135 career games in his fifth season as a Sun Devil. That mark leads all non-transfer skaters in ASU program history for most games played. He has collected nine goals and 34 assists for 43 total points - all while being a defenseman. Wilson's 34 career assists are seventh in Arizona State program history and third by a defenseman. His 42 points are also ranked third in total points by a defenseman at ASU.
COLIN THEISEN
Senior Class Profile
Classroom: Theisen earned his degree in finance from Notre Dame this past spring. He is now a graduate transfer at Arizona State, where is pursuing a Mater's of Legal Studies. Theisen is an AHCA All-American Scholar, as well as a three-time Academic All-Big Ten recipient.
Character: Theisen was named an alternate captain at Note Dame during his final season with the team last year. Exhibiting both immense hockey and leadership experience, he joined the Sun Devil Hockey's Leadership Group prior to the start of this season.
Community: Theisen was a member of the Notre Dame team that received the "2020 Trophy Award" from Notre Dame Gold. It's given to the Notre Dame team that has made the most significant impact on the community through their service efforts. He has also actively participated in Notre Dame's Movember efforts, which bring awareness to prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's mental health.
Competition: Theisen, now in his fifth and final season, has played in 160 NCAA games. He boasts career marks of 41 goals and 51 assists for 92 points. The Fighting Irish appeared in the NCAA Frozen Four during his freshman season but ultimately lost in the championship game. He was named Notre Dame's Rookie of the Year that season. Theisen scored a season-high 11 goals, and would eventually finish the year with a career-high 20 points in a season, as a sophomore. He also tallied 20 points through eight goals and 12 assists the following season. Theisen has had an incredible start to his fifth year with 19 points through 16 games. He scored his second career hat-trick this season, when he did so against St. Thomas.
