TULSA, Oklahoma - Sun Devil's Men Tennis wrapped up competition in the ITA Men's All-American Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Tuesday following the elimination of Max McKennon/Fabien Salle in the doubles open qualifying draw. Eight Sun Devils competed in the pre-qualifying singles competition, two competed in the qualifying and Max McKennon/Fabien Salle made up the lone doubles team that competed.
ASU saw competition from three ranked opponents during their four-day trip to the Sooner State, but McKennon/Salle were the only ones to come up on top.
Singles Competition
In the pre-qualifying draw competition for singles, eight players represented ASU in Saturday's competition. In the round of 256, George Stoupe had a bye, which automatically qualified him for the next round where he won the match against Nathan Perrone of Saint Joseph's, 2-6 and 6-4 [10-7] to qualify to the Round of 64 but lost in three sets to Guido Marson from Texas A&M. Jacob Bullard won in two sets over Ignacio Garcia of St. John's in the first round to advance to the Round of 128. Bullard, along with teammates Christian Lerby and Nicola Cigna, faced competition from Texas A&M as well as SMU and Oklahoma, where they came up short. For the Sun Devils, McKennon made it to the Round of 32 after defeating opponents from UAB, defending national champions Florida and UC Irvine. Jonah Wilson, Spencer Brachman and Moritz Hoffman all competed in the first round of the pre-qualifying draw for ASU but did not advance.
In the qualifying draw on Monday, No. 8 ITA Newcomer Murphy Cassone and No. 52 Fabien Salle took the courts. Cassone defeated his Round-of-256 opponent Nathan Han from Oklahoma in three sets but was defeated in the next round after facing No. 125 Tim Zeitvogel from Pepperdine. Similar to Cassone, Salle defeated his round one opponent, Quinn Vandecasteele from Oregon, in three sets but lost in the Round-of-128 to Eric Hadigian in three sets.
Doubles Competition
The duo of Max McKennnon/Fabien Salle competed as the lone doubles team for the Sun Devils in Tulsa. McKennon/Salle defeated the No. 57 ranked doubles team at Chowderfest last weekend but came up short in their last match of the tournament. To open up their tournament in Tulsa on Monday, they won in straight sets versus their first opponent from SMU, Julian Steinhauser and Hunter Allen, and their second opponent Jacob Brumm and Tadeas Paroulek from Baylor to find themselves in the Round of 32. Facing Shunsuke Mitsui and Emile Hudd of Tennessee, McKennon and Salle were defeated 1-6, 6-3 [10-5].
