TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Beach Volleyball is participating in two fall scrimmages this weekend, taking on Arizona in a closed match on Friday before playing in Grand Canyon's pairs tournament on Saturday.
Friday and Saturday are the only fall scrimmages against other opponents. The matchup against the Wildcats will be closed to the public, but the pairs tournament at GCU will be open to fans. This will be the team's first chance to get playing experience against people from other teams.
Last season, ASU had an overall record of 10-12. With COVID-19 restrictions, the team played fewer duals than usual seasons. Of the 10 wins, four were sweeps. The Sand Devils had a 4-7 Pac-12 record, picking up wins over Washington, Utah and Cal. The season ended at the Pac-12 Championships where Arizona State was able to earn one victory, edging out a 3-2 win over Washington.
The Sand Devils return eight student-athletes and lost four who saw playing time in 2021. There are six talented freshmen on the team to help raise ASU's game.
