STANFORD, Calif. - Sun Devil Women's Golf wrapped up the Stanford Intercollegiate, completing the last of three rounds at Stanford Golf Course Sunday afternoon.
Arizona State (+6/858) finished tied for sixth place in a loaded field that included eight teams ranked in the Golfstat Top-25. ASU finished tied with No. 7 Texas, as seven teams finished with an 858 or lower. The other 11 teams finished with an 866 (+14) or higher, an indication of the difficulty of the course. The host team and No. 1-ranked Stanford took home the championship. After an opening round 282, the Sun Devils finished with two consecutive 288's to cap the tournament.
"We struggled getting started today," Coach Farr-Kaye remarked. "Once we settled in we played much better. Calynne had another really great week in a very strong field. This was also Lexi's best finish this season. There are a lot of positive takeaways from this week."
The Maroon & Gold finished with 48 birdies, with all five Sun Devils contributing in the category. The team enjoyed the most success on par-four opportunities, finishing with the third-best scoring average in the field (4.18). Arizona State also finished an incredible 18-under on par-five holes, the third-best mark of any team.
The Sun Devils were led by freshman Calynne Rosholt, who earned her first-career Top-5 finish in only her second tournament at the collegiate level. Rosholt played with maturity and poise all weekend, finishing with a 209 (-4) to end tied for fifth at one of the best field of the Fall season. She shook off a rough start and was locked in over her final 15 holes, finishing two-under and avoiding any bogeys. Rosholt enjoyed the most success of any Sun Devil on par-three opportunities, finishing one-under par on such chances. Her 38 pars were tied for the fourth-most of anyone in the field, as she played nearly mistake-free golf in only her third event at this level.
"It feels amazing to have placed so high in this field," Rosholt mentioned. "I'm so grateful to have had my coaches to help keep me laughing and always encourage me to just keep pushing. I just focused and stayed calm and trusted the game I prepared with."
Joining Rosholt in delivering an excellent performance was Alexandra Forsterling, who made it two Sun Devils in the Top-10 at the Stanford Intercollegiate. Forsterling (-2/211) ended in a tie for 10th after a consistent weekend that was capped with two consecutive rounds under par. It is her seventh-career Top-10 finish and 14th-career Top-20 result. Forsterling started her day with a birdie and then caught fire on the sixth hole, as she went on to birdie five of the next eight holes. A big reason why was her success on par-four holes, as she finished even, the best of any Sun Devil and Top-5 in the field. Forsterling recorded a team-best 12 birdies, with seven of them coming in today's round.
Alessandra Fanali was the third-highest finishing Sun Devil, finding herself in the top-third of a 90-golfer field. Fanali finished tied for 30th and made up ground at the end thanks to a two-under stretch over her final four holes. Ashley Menne also enjoyed a strong finish to her round, going one-under during her last 12 holes. Menne took advantage of par-five opportunities, average a 4.5 score on such holes, tied for the fifth-best in the field as well as the lowest on the team.
"We have 2 more weeks to get some work done then we will be ready to close out the fall season at the PAC 12 Preview," Coach Farr-Kaye said.
