TEMPE, Ariz. -- Head coach Trisha Ford announced the addition of infielder Brittany Holland to the Arizona State Softball program for the 2021 season on Wednesday.

Holland, a Gilbert native, comes to Tempe after spending three seasons at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

"We're so happy to welcome Brittany back to the Phoenix area in maroon and gold," Ford said. "She has a ton of elite softball experience and that offensive prowess we love at Arizona State. Brittany also brings some much needed depth to our infield and we're proud to add more local talent to our roster."

Prior to becoming a Ragin Cajun, Holland played one season at Central Arizona College where she made an immediate impact. During her freshman season, she led the team with a .471 batting average, 15 home runs and 81 RBIs. The third baseman was named NJCAA first team All-American and helped get the team to the Region 1 championship.

In her first season at Lafayette, Holland played three games before suffering a season-ending knee injury. At the time of her injury, she had a batting percentage of .571, racked up a hit in each of the games she appeared in, and drove in three runs. Holland redshirted her sophomore year after an injury during a preseason practice.

The infielder played in 11 games, starting seven of them, during the 2020 season. Holland had five starts at third base, where she primarily competed, however she switched over to first base prior to the season ending due to COVID-19. She earned four hits in 14 plate appearances and also landed her first home run at the Division 1 level with high fashion -  hitting a grand slam against UTSA. Holland ended the shortened season with a .583 slugging percentage and five RBIs.

The Gilbert native attended Mesquite High School where she played varsity all four years and was named the team's MVP during her junior and senior seasons. She was a 2016 inductee of the school's Hall of Fame, along with being selected for All-State honors and to the state's All-Star team.

Holland is awaiting a transfer release from ULL in anticipation of competition in Spring 2021.
