CLEVELAND – Arizona State University Deputy Athletic Director Jean Boyd is one of two 2021 Distinguished Service Award Winners, as named by the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) this week.
 
Boyd and Kenneth Miles, a former N4A president, were the two recipients for 2021. This prestigious award is presented annually to an N4A member who has demonstrated continuous N4A membership for five years, distinguished themselves as a leader in N4A at the regional or national level and contributed above and beyond the normal service required by positions of leadership.
 
Boyd had served as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student Athlete Development since June 2011 prior to becoming Deputy Athletic Director. In this capacity he lead Sun Devil Athletics' commitment to graduating and preparing student-athletes to become high achievers in life.  He also coordinates student-athlete well-being programs and leads the department's diversity and inclusion efforts.
 
Boyd was named the National Associate of Academic Advisors for Athletes' Lan Hewlett Award winner - given to the top academic professional as voted by his/her peers - in the summer of 2012.
 
Since January 1991, Boyd has been a Sun Devil. He joined the football program in 1991 and after playing for three years, he earned his undergraduate degree in History from the College of Liberal Arts in 1994. He went on to earn his Master's degree in Education in Higher and Post-Secondary Education in 1998. Professionally, Boyd joined the ASU Athletic department as a management intern in July 1995 after spending time with the New England Patriots in 1994 and the London Monarchs (NFL Europe) in spring of 1995. He has served as Coordinator then Manager for Life Skills, Manager for Football Academics, Assistant then Associate Athletic Director for Student Athlete Development. 

Outside of Sun Devil Athletics, Boyd continues to be committed to his life passion of empowering young people through education and sport and to maximize their human potential. In 2005 he co-founded a non-profit organization "Scholar Baller®," which promotes academic and life achievement through motivational academic incentives and educational initiatives.
 
N4A, which has been in existence since 1975, is a diverse educational service and professional non-profit organization. Membership of N4A includes academic support and student services personnel who are committed to enhancing opportunities for academic, athletics and personal success for student-athletes.
