SAN FRANCISCO -- The No. 13 Sun Devil Softball team got the brooms and sophomore left-hander Lindsay Lopez gave the Arizona Wildcats the final sweep out of Club Farrington. For her performance in the rivalry series last weekend, the Pac-12 Conference announced that Lopez earned Freshman of the Week, on Monday afternoon.
Lopez is eligible to earn Freshman of the Week as a sophomore because the Conference is including both freshman and sophomore classes in the freshman category due to the shortened 2020 season.
The Arizona native picked up all three wins in ASU's first conference sweep of UA since 2012. She threw 11.2 innings with ten hits and only one earned run. The pitch-to-contact queen of the circle finished the weekend with 10 strikeouts.
On Friday night, Lopez went entered as relief for starter Allison Royalty. Lopez collected the win with 3.2 innings pitched as she held the Wildcats to only one earned run in 18 batters faced. Her performance backstopped ASU's upset of UA and put a fork in the Wildcats' 12-game winning streak.
The next night, Lopez again entered as relief. She pitched the final 3.1 innings, holding UA to only one run - the fewest scored by the Wildcats in 17 games. She never issued a walk with only three hits in 13 batters faced. ASU's 8-1 win on Saturday gave the Sun Devils their first series win over the Wildcats since 2015.
The two teams met for the final time on Sunday afternoon where ASU looked to secure the first conference series since 2012. Lopez remained outwitting the Wildcats from the mound, pitching 4.2 of an eight-inning game. She threw five strikeouts in her appearance, tied for second-most in a single game by Lopez in her collegiate career.
