TUCSON - Not even an ounce of pity for the kitty!

No. 33 Arizona State (13-7, 6-3 Pac-12) shutout in-state rival Arizona (13-11, 2-8 Pac-12)  4-0 to close out the regular season Saturday afternoon in Tucson. ASU took control early and never let up en route to celebrating Lauryn John-Baptiste, Giulia Morlet, Marianna Argyrokastriti's singles victories on top of the the doubles point. The Sun Devils now turn their eyes to next week's Pac-12 championship in San Diego, Calif.

It was nice to win the rivalry match and get the Territorial Cup point," head coach Sheila McInereny said. "Despite the 4-0 score it was a tough match with the doubles coming down to a tiebreaker and three three-setters going in singles. But I'm happy with the win and you always like to end the season with a win over the 'Cats. It's been a long season with COVID and everything so we're very much looking forward to the Pac-12 championships where we'll probably be the four-seed with a good chance to play USC again so we're excited to finish the regular season strong and start Pac-12s next week."

It was all-gas no-breaks for ASU, with Ilze Hattingh/Lauryn John-Baptiste kicking doubles off with a 6-2 victory on court one followed by a 7-6 victory at No. 3 from Giulia Morlet/Tereza Kolarova.

The middle of the lineup then kept the pressure on for ASU heading into singles play, with the Sun Devils' match-clinching wins coming from straight-set victories at the three, four and five slots.
