BERKELEY, Calif. -- The No. 25 Sun Devils (9-5, 3-2 Pac-12) fought hard but fell short, 6-1, to No. 20 California (10-2, 3-1 Pac-12) on Saturday afternoon at the Hellman Tennis Complex. The Sun Devils came out hot and strong, winning the doubles point, but couldn't keep the momentum going into singles play as the Golden Bears swept singles to hand ASU its second conference loss of the season.
Doubles
After a battle back and forth on court three, Guilia Morlet/Domenika Turkovic prevailed
(6-3)to give the Sun Devils their first win of the day. The Sun Devils secured the first doubles win with Marianna Argyrokastriti/Sammi Hampton beating Cal's Bright/Viller-Moeller 6-1 on court two. With the point clinched, the No. 1 match featuring Ilze Hattingh/Lauryn John-Baptiste and Cal's Giavara/Ivanov went unfinished at 4-4.
Singles
Ilze Hattingh was first off the court for the Sun Devils and fell short against Giavara 3-6, 2-6 to give the Bears their first point of the day. The Bears used the momentum to then win at No. 6 thanks to Anna Bright who defeated Domenika Turkovic, putting the Bears up 2-1. Jada Bui then topped Giulia Morlet at No. 4, and the day was clinched for Cal with No. 43 Julia Rosenqvist's win over No. 115 Sammi Hampton on No. 2.
