COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Sun Devils concluded the Championships at the Peak at the Air Force Academy on Saturday in dazzling fashion. The second and final day featured multiple top-five finishes and a record setting performance in the 60m hurdles where Jamar Marshall Jr. and Kentre Patterson took the top two spots in the ASU all-time list. The day also featured standout shot putter Turner Washington winning the shot with a throw of 21.43m and first-year Australian international Dylan James landing ninth all-time at ASU in the triple jump (15.46m/50' 8 ¾").
Washington kicked the day off with a first-place finish in the shot put. The redshirt junior, who's coming off of a collegiate-record performance, was dialed in from the start. His throw of 21.43m/70' 3 ¾" was almost two meters farther than 2019 All-American Jordan Geist( 19.72m/64' 8 ½"), who took second.
Marshall Jr. (7.59) and Patterson (7.66) turned heads today as they took first and second, respectively, in the 60mH with personal-best times. Marshall Jr moved to No. 1 on the ASU all-time list; his time was 0.01 of a second off tying the field house record at Air Force Academy. Patterson followed closely behind with a personal-best 7.66 to take second. Patterson's time moves him to No. 2 on the ASU top-10 list just behind Marshal Jr. Both runners passed Tony Galaviz, who held the top spot for ASU before today, who ran a 7.71 back in 2002.
Jorinde van Klinken, ranked No. 4 in the NCAA, took second in the shot put. Van Klinken launched her ball 17.76m/58'3.25", setting another personal-best mark. She continues to inch closer to Sun Devil forever Sarah Stevens for the No. 3 spot on the ASU top-10 list for the shot put.
The Sun Devils will head back to Fayetteville, Arkansas for one final battle indoors March 9-14 when they compete in the NCAA Indoor National Championships.
