Turner Washington set a meet record for the shot put in the final day of the Texas Tech Invite.

Lubbock, Texas – Sun Devil track and field closed out the two-day Texas Tech Invitational Saturday afternoon with huge victories in the men's shot put and women's mile thanks to Turner Washington and Lena Lebrun. Washington's 20.94m was a personal best, meet record, and facility record. Lebrun's 4:58.15 was a meet record and she finished over five seconds ahead of the competition. In total, ASU celebrated five top-three finishes.

Washington's throw of 20.94m/68-8 ½ feet came on his final throw of the competition to extend his lead and win the event for the Sun Devils. His throw was just over three inches better than fellow Pac-12 thrower, Jordan Geist (19.97m). With the toss, Washington moved into second all-time on the ASU indoor shot list, just behind program legend and USA Olympian Ryan Whiting (21.73m/71-3.5 feet). Washington held the third-place mark going into this weekend.

Lebrun separated herself on lap five before comfortably finishing ahead of Oklahoma State's Rilee Rigdon (5:03.88).

In the first meet of her Sun Devil career, Jordinde van Klinken took second (17.02m/55-10 ¼) in the women's shot put behind four-time All-American and Sun Devil graduate-turned Arizona Wildcat Samantha Noennig (17.30). An international phenom, van Klinken's pre-ASU resume includes a silver medal from the 2020 Dutch National Championships (17.71m), and she was the 2019 U-23 European Throwing Cup shot put champion (16.38m).

Both Fearghal Curtin and Dubem Nwachukwu placed third in their events for the Sun Devils. Curtin hung in the top two spots for most of his mile race before slipping to third on the final lap to finish in 4:12.95. Nwachukwu led the way for the three Sun Devils who competed in the 600-yard, crossing in 1:10.19.
