SAN FRANCSICO – Gym Devil freshman Sarah Clark was named the Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Week after her strong performance in the win over No. 10 BYU last weekend.

In the first weekly awards given out by the conference, Clark took home the freshman of the week honor. Last season, the Sun Devils took home Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Week twice, first with Hannah Scharf and then with Juliette Boyer. Gymnasts from Utah took home the other three weekly awards. Clark competed in three events: bars (9.750), beam (9.900) and floor (9.800). Her score on beam was the highest mark on that event by a freshman since 2008. She showed her nerves of steel, putting up that score after her teammate fell just before her turn in the lineup. She proved her mental strength again on floor, going in the anchor spot and clinching the win in a close meet.

Arizona State is back on the road this weekend to kick off Pac-12 play at preseason No. 7 UCLA. The meet will be live on the Pac-12 Network at 3 p.m. MST.
