TEMPE, Ariz. -- Sun Devil Softball heads into the much anticipated 2021 season with a highly-touted squad of 27 student-athletes and ranked No. 17 in the first preseason top 25 ranking by D1 Softball, announced on Monday.
The preseason ranking puts ASU right where they left off in 2020. The team finished the shortened season as No. 17 in the NFCA ranking.
Last week, Softball America released its top three '2021 Lineups to Watch', naming ASU as one of the three most promising lineups. In 2020, the Sun Devils put on a clinic in offensive prowess - leading the nation in home runs with a massive 50 dingers from 13 players in only 29 games.
While the Sun Devils earned recognition as a top team in the country, Softball America recognized several ASU players in various preseason categories. In early January, fifth-year Kindra Hackbarth, the team's lead-off batter, was named one of the country's top three outfielders.
On Tuesday, Softball America continued its preseason rankings with its Top 25 Sophomores' release, listing shortstop Alynah Torres at No. 6 in the country. Outfielder Jazmine Hill accompanied Torres in the rankings, landing at No. 17.
