TEMPE, Ariz. – Head Coach Trisha Ford has announced the addition of highly touted utility player, Marissa Schuld, to the Arizona State Softball program.

Schuld, a Scottsdale native, returns to Sun Devil Country after spending two seasons at the University of Arizona, where the two-time Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year further improved her ability to play in multiple positions of the game.

The 2018 FloSoftball High School Player of the Year and Pinnacle High School graduate is no stranger to championship titles - in her senior season, Schuld led the team to a 6A State Championship. In pursuit of the title, the utility player set single-season school records in home runs (16), RBI (57), victories (22) and strikeouts (248). A four-year letter-winner, Schuld graduated a two-time AZ Central Softball Player of the Year with first-team all-state, all-region, all-district, and all-conference recognition. As a player who excels on both the mound and at the plate, Schuld owns Pinnacle's career records in home runs (37), RBI (177), strikeouts (617), and victories (54).

"We are extremely excited to add someone like Marissa to our program. She has been a winner her whole life and is someone that will fit into our system seamlessly. I love her competitive spirit and work ethic. With her addition, we are continuing our push to keep high-level Arizona players here at ASU," Ford said.

In her freshman season, Schuld appeared in nine games – five in the circle and four at the plate. The right-hander pitched 14.2 innings and started two games, earning a perfect 2-0 record. She completed the season with a brilliant 0.48 ERA and eight strikeouts to just one walk. Opposite the circle, Schuld scored the first run of her career in Pac-12 play against Utah on April 6, 2019.

A competitor to the core, Schuld improved her performance at the plate and emerged as Arizona's primary designated player in 2020, starting 15 of UA's 25 games. Schuld finished fourth on the team with a .350 average in 40 at-bats in the shortened season. She notched a double and two home runs to conclude the year with a .525 slugging percentage, the fifth-highest on the Wildcats roster. Schuld also revealed a knack for making contact with the ball – earning a hit in each of her first nine appearances. With a hot bat, Schuld let the iron strike, posting three multi-hit games, including a powerful first career start performance capped with a double, a homer, and three RBI. In position one, Schuld made three scoreless appearances, striking out two batters with a mere two hits and no walks.

Schuld has two years of eligibility remaining and will be eligible for competition in the 2021-2022 season unless released by Arizona as a transfer within the Pac-12 Conference.
