TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State University head women's basketball coach Charli Turner Thorne today announced Imogen Greenslade has signed a letter of intent to study and play basketball at Arizona State.
A talented, six-foot-four post player, Greenslade will be joining Sun Devil Women's Basketball from Australia, where she has been a member of the New South Wales U20 Team since 2019. Last year, Greenslade helped her U20 squad win a Silver medal at the National Championships.
"Arizona State has been with me from the beginning of my college journey and I immediately felt at home amongst the team and coaches," Greenslade said. "Also, I'm interested in studying theatre and ASU has one of the best theatre programs I've ever seen."
Greenslade has accumulated numerous awards and honors over the last three years, including being named the NSBA Defensive Player of the Year and the Sydney Basketball Institute's MVP in 2018. That same year, Greenslade was recognized with the NSBA Youth League Coaches Award and was named the MVP of the Waratah League U18 Grand Final. In 2019, Greenspan was selected the MLC School's Basketball Athlete of the Year.
She becomes the sixth member of an ASU signing class that was already regarded as one of best in program history. The class was ranked as high as No. 5 in the nation (BlueStar Basketball) after Turner Thorne announced last November that Maggie Besselink, Keeli Burton, Sydney Erikstrup, Katelyn Levings, Jaddan Simmons had officially joined the program.
"We are really excited to be adding such an athletic, talented post player to our already top ranked class," Turner Thorne said. "After graduating both of our centers in 2020, we'll be looking for Imogen to help anchor this position with [incoming freshman] Keeli Burton. You would never know Imogen started playing basketball a little later than most when you watch her skills and instincts for the game. I think she will be especially effective with her defense and rebounding right away. Imogen embodies all the important attributes we value in our program. She works hard, is a giver and plays with courage whenever she is on the floor. I know our fans will definitely enjoy getting to know her fun personality."
Greenslade's tournament experience includes competing in the U20 Australian Championships (2019-20), Waratah League NSW (2018-20), NSW All Schools Tournament (2019) and Sydney Basketball Institute's New Zealand Tour Tournament (2018-19) and Asia/Pacific Easter Tournament (2018-19). Greenslade's NSBA/NSW State coach Tom Garlepp said Greenslade has a bright future in Tempe.
"Hearing the news of Imogen's decision to attend Arizona State as a student-athlete was very pleasing," Garlepp said. "Imogen has great length and athleticism, and has developed her toughness to a point where she can be a valuable contributor to a storied program such as ASU. It is a testament to Imogen's character as a tireless worker, and selfless teammate, that she has been able to make such strides in her development in a short span considering she is still very young in her basketball journey."
Last season, ASU won 20 or more games for the seventh straight season and was ranked No. 25 in the final AP poll. The Sun Devils were preparing to make their school record seventh straight trip to the NCAA Tournament before the cancellation of the season was announced by the NCAA on March 12. One of the biggest highlights of the 2019-20 season came in January when ASU became the first unranked team to defeat consecutive Top-5 opponents after defeating then-No. 2 Oregon (72-66 on Jan. 10) and then-No. 3 Oregon State (54-47 on Jan. 12).
