TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Hockey and head coach Greg Powers announced Wednesday the program's inaugural Alumni Game to be played in preparation for a potential NCAA Tournament appearance. The game will be played Saturday, March 21 at 5 p.m. at Oceanside Ice Arena, and tickets will be available to the general public Thursday, March 5.
The alumni lineup features two key players from the 2018-19 NCAA Tournament run in Dylan Hollman and Anthony Croston, along with NHL draft pick and minor league player Robbie Baillargeon. Four players from the 2014 ACHA National Championship team – Kale Dolinski, Colin Hekle, Danny McAuliffe, Liam Norris and local d-man Jordan Young – are also returning to Oceanside for the game. A highly anticipated addition as well as the remaining alumni roster will continue to be announced.
"After experiencing the layoff between the regular season and postseason last year at this time, I immediately began to prepare a competitive option during the break if we made the postseason this year," said head coach Greg Powers. "All season, I've communicated with some of our most talented alumni to return and put on a competitive match-up to prepare our team for the postseason within NCAA restrictions.
"Make no mistake about it, this game is designed to prepare our team for the NCAA Tournament and we hope fans will help make it as much of a game-like atmosphere as possible."
Coach Powers will coach the alumni team and the game will consist of three, 20-minute periods with ice-cuts to simulate a real game to best prepare for the NCAA Tournament.
The NCAA Men's Hockey Selection Show is scheduled for Sunday, March 22 at 4 p.m. MST on ESPNU. The Sun Devils will be looking to qualify for their second-straight tournament.
