TEMPE, Ariz. – The Sun Devil Lacrosse team finishes off a six-game homestand by hosting a pair of 1 pm MST games on Friday and Monday at Sun Devil Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium.

On Friday, March 13 at 1 pm MST, the Sun Devils host the No. 7 USC Trojans, the highest ranked team to come to Tempe. On Monday, March 16 at 1 pm MST, Arizona State wraps up the non-conference portion of their schedule with a matchup with Monmouth University.

Coming off a split of the Bay Area schools that included a victory in the Pac-12 opener for the first time in school history, Arizona State continues to build confidence at the midway point of the season. The win over California carried extra weight for redshirt junior goalkeeper Berkeley Bonneau, as the Golden Bears swept the season series last year. Bonneau used that disappointment as fuel, doing whatever it takes to generate extra motivation.

"There was a ton of confidence gained from beating Cal," Berkeley Bonneau commented. "I actually gave up social media in 2020 until we won our first Pac-12 game, knowing it was against Cal. I didn't have any social media for over eight weeks, but I wanted to do that since we weren't able to beat Cal last year. It made me even more focused on winning that game because I did not want to have another losing season against them. We want to prove this is a brand-new team compared to last year."

The Sun Devils have done exactly that in 2020, featuring an efficient new-look offense combined with a tough and strategic defensive approach. Despite Sunday's loss to Stanford, the Maroon & Gold still rank near the top nationally in several offensive categories. Arizona State's 76 assists lead the country, while their 131 goals are the seventh most in the NCAA. With 29 goals this season, Kerri Clayton has the eighth most goals of any individual nationally. Emily Glagolev's 24 assist are tied the third-most in the country. Goalkeeper Berkeley Bonneau has made double digit saves in three of her last four games to give her 72 saves this season, the top mark in the Pac-12.

LAST TIME OUT
Arizona State Lacrosse lost at home for the first time this season, falling to No. 25 Stanford 17-6 on Sunday. The play of Berkeley Bonneau early in the game had a season-high crowd on its feet, as the goalkeeper made eight of her 10 saves during the first eight minutes of the game. The outstanding play of the redshirt junior kept the Sun Devils within striking distance early.

"From practice to games, I always do the same routine every day to keep it consistent," Bonneau reflected in reference to her ability to start games strong. "I was feeling really good and came into the game with the mindset that I need to do my part. I tried to do what was needed to keep it a close game."

The Sun Devils struggled to generate offense in the first half against a talented Stanford defense, with the Cardinal jumping out to a 12-1 lead after 30 minutes. Coach McCormack managed to settle his team down at halftime, as Arizona State came out competing in the second half. The Maroon & Gold put together a much-improved second half effort. ASU went toe-to-toe with No. 25 Stanford in the final half, matching their second half goal output (5).

Katie Brodsky was a bright spot for the offense, scoring two of the six goals. Coming off the bench to provide a late spark was Kate Dougherty, who recorded both a goal and an assist as the Sun Devils scored the final three goals of the game.

In the Pac-12 Conference opener on Friday, Arizona State took the fight to California, immediately jumping out to a 3-0 right out of the gates on their way to defeating California 17-15. Coach McCormack's team won the Pac-12 opener for the first time in program history behind the strength of another potent offensive attack along with clutch defense and goaltending.

Opposing defenses have yet to figure out a way to stop Kerri Clayton, as she played the game at her pace this afternoon. She finished with five goals for the third time in the last four games, riding a scoring tear that is putting her near the top of the national statistical ranks. Carley Adams (3 goals & 1 assist) and Emily Glagolev (2 goals & 2 assists) provided plenty of offensive support, each finishing with four points today.

Berkeley Bonneau turned in yet another double-digit save performance, the 25th of her career. The Sun Devils needed every one of her 14 saves, as she reached a special milestone in the first half of the victory. Bonneau eclipsed the 400-save mark this afternoon, fittingly on a free-position shot. She made a total of four stops on free-position shots, including two timely ones in the second half to secure the win.

KNOW YOUR FOE: USC
Arizona State continues their six-game homestand on Friday at 1 pm, as they welcome No. 7 USC to Tempe for another Pac-12 battle. A year removed from a NCAA Tournament appearance, the 2019 Pac-12 Regular Season and Tournament Champion USC Trojans are off to another strong start under Head Coach Lindsey Munday. They are off to a 6-0 start this season, most recently sweeping the Bay Area schools to open conference play. USC has beaten three Top-25 teams this year, including No. 9 Michigan and No. 15 Boston College. A consensus Top-10-ranked team nationally, the Trojans represent the highest-ranked team Arizona State has ever hosted at Sun Devil Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium.

"I am excited to play USC," Bonneau remarked. "Rankings can sometimes get in your head, but that shouldn't even matter. We are just playing an opposing team that has a different name across their chest. It is another day to compete and show everybody what Sun Devil Lacrosse is about."

USC relies on their stingy defense, which allows a conference low 8.67 goals/game. They have caused 64 turnovers, the most in the Pac-12. Midfielder Kerrigan Miller has caused eight of those to go along with 11 draw controls. Trojans' Goalkeeper Riley Herford is the reigning Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week. She has played 349 of a possible 360 minutes in net, making 60 saves and boasting a .561 save percentage. Attackers Emily Concialdi (22 points) and Izzy McMahon (16 points) pace an offense that averages 13.33 goals/game.

KNOW YOUR FOE: MONMOUTH
In the final game of a six-game home stand, Arizona State completes the non-conference portion of their schedule by hosting Monmouth. The members of the MAAC went 12-6 last season, finishing second in the conference and ending their season in the conference tournament semi-finals. Head Coach Jordan Trautman's team is off to a 6-2 start this season, riding a three-game winning streak heading into the Monday matchup (1 pm) with the Sun Devils. Back in 2018, current Sun Devil Assistant Coach Dorrien Van Dyke was a part of Trautman's first coaching staff in West Long Branch.

A pair of high-powered offenses will square off in Tempe, as the Hawks average 15.1 goals/game. Attacker Nicole Ceraso has 47 points (23 goals & 24 assists) to pace the offense, with Caroline Bleck leading the Hawks with 32 goals. Goalkeeper Stephanie Delliturri has played 469 of a possible 480 minutes in net, making 65 saves with a .419 save percentage. Monmouth holds a 147-80 draw control advantage over their opponents.
