FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Sun Devil diver Youssef Selim added his second NCAA bid in as many days, punching his ticket to Indianapolis in the one meter board today. Selim's one meter appearance is his fourth-straight at the National Championships.
"It was another 'check the boxes' day for Youssef today with a consistent routine of dives," coach Mark Bradshaw said. "Tomorrow will be more physically challenging for him in the platform event. He'll have the same mantra tomorrow, and consistent performance is all that's needed."
The ticket comes one day after Selim took the top spot in the three meter springboard yesterday. The Egyptian entered the day needing to place in the top-12 to claim another bid in one meter after taking first yesterday.
Selim started off the preliminary round on a high note, scoring six 8.0s and one 8.5 on his very first dive of the morning. He never faltered through the next five, finishing the morning with a score of 367.60 to take first place.
He came back later that afternoon for the finals, needing to place in just the top two thirds of the 18 competitors. Selim was on his "A" game for the finals, never achieving below a 7.0 on four of his six dives. He finished with a score of 367.85 to take second place and his ticket to Indianapolis.
Selim is back in action tomorrow morning for the final day of the Zone E Diving Championships. Platform action is set to begin at 11 a.m. MST and fans can keep up with the action all season long by following @ASUSwimDive on Twitter.
