With several ASU track and field athletes having strong performances at recent events in Iowa and New Mexico, Arizona State is taking plenty of momentum into the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Track and Field Championship held Feb. 28-29 in Seattle.
At the USATF Indoor Championship in New Mexico, All-American Cortney Jones ran a season's best 8.10 to finish fourth in the 60-meter hurdles, while NCAA champion Samantha Noennig secured a top-five finish in the shot put competition while being the highest finishing collegiate athlete in the competition.
At the Don Kirby Elite, Ian Schulz finished second in the men's shot put competition with a 18.61m/61-3.25-foot heave, while Josephine Anokye won the women's 200-meter dash while finishing with the fourth best time in school history of 23.57.
Several Distance Devils also made noise in the Iowa State Classic, with Bianca Tinoco claiming the fifth best mile run time in school history with 4:45:49, and Megan Reniewicki finishing victorious in the women's 5,000 with her personal best time of 16:51:39.
ASU is hoping these strong performances will help them win even more titles this season, as three Sun Devils finished victorious in last year's MPSF Championship.
William Paulson finished first in the men's 1-mile run with a new school record of 3:58:07, while Jessica Barreira was the winner of the women's triple jump with a distance of 12.90 meters.
Returning NCAA champion Samantha Noennig, ASU's only non-senior to win at last year's competition, is looking to defend her title in the women's shot put after throwing for 17.4 meters last year.
Josephine Anokye is also returning to improve upon her sixth place finish in the women's 200-meter dash, while Bianca Tinoco looks to improve her time in the women's-800 meter after her eighth place finish last year.
The MPSF Championship will begin in Seattle, Washington, on Friday, February 28.
