TEMPE, Ariz. – Former Sun Devil standout Whitney Follette is returning to the sand to join No. 20 Arizona State beach volleyball as the volunteer assistant coach.

"We are very excited to announce the return of a former Sand Devil to the program," Arizona State head coach Brad Keenan said. "We are thrilled to have her, and the team is pumped to learn from one of the winningest players in program history."

Follette played both indoor and beach volleyball while at ASU. She played indoor from 2012-15 and beach from 2014-17. She is all around the record books for both teams, having contributed greatly in each season she played.

"I feel very fortunate to rejoin ASU beach volleyball and work with Brad, Ryan and this talented team," Follette said. "It has been really exciting to see the growth and success of the program over the past few years. Being part of something this special is thrilling, and I'm looking forward to give what I can give as a volunteer coach."

In the beach volleyball record book, Follette still holds the top spot for career wins by an individual with 61. She is second in career wins by a pair with Bianca Arellano, earning 40 wins together. In 2016, she was named to the inaugural All-Pac-12 First Team while also being selected to the first ever Pac-12 All-Tournament team. In 2017, she and Arellano earned 23 wins, the second-highest win total in a single season.

Follette had a storied career while playing indoor volleyball for Arizona State. She finished her ASU career in second in school history with 364 total block assists. She tabulated 448 career total blocks, ranking third on Arizona State's all-time list. She became only the fourth Sun Devil to record 400 career total blocks. In 2015, she was named to the AVCA All-American Honorable Mention list and to the AVCA All-Pacific-South Region Team. In conference honors that same season, she earned Pac-12 All-Conference Honorable Mention and Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention.

The 2020 season will begin with the annual Maroon and Gold Scrimmage on February 14 at 5 p.m. at the PERA Club. The first matches of the regular season will be played on February 22 in Tucson against San Francisco and Boise State.
