SAN FRANCISCO – As announced by the Pac-12 Conference on Wednesday, Arizona State Wrestling's redshirt freshman Jacori Teemer has been named Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week for his performances over the weekend against Little Rock and No. 20 Missouri.
In a match finale against Missouri, Teemer fended off No. 12 Jarrett Jacques to pick up a 10-7 decision win and help guide ASU to its sixth top-25 win of the season. The victory over Jacques was Teemer's first win over a top-15 opponent as a Sun Devil.
Teemer's win on Sunday was a part of a 2-0 weekend for the first year freshman from Long Beach, N.Y., as he also defeated Thomas Lisher of Little Rock by way of technical fall, 17-2.
Halfway through year one, Teemer is 11-5 with two major decisions, two technical falls and one pin. He's been on a tear of late, winning seven of his last eight matches after starting the season 4-4.
Teemer is the first Sun Devil freshman to receive the Pac-12 weekly honor since Josh Maruca did so back in 2016-17. The honor marks the second ASU wrestler to receive the conference accolade, with Zahid Valencia taking home the award back in January.
The upset win over Jacques proved enough to get the attention of many national rankings outlets as Teemer now finds himself ranked in the top-25 by Trackwrestling, InterMat, The Open Mat and FloWrestling, appearing as high as No. 13.
The Pac-12 Conference will announce a Wrestler of the Week each Wednesday from Jan. 8 to Feb. 26 leading up to the Pac-12 Championships. The conference tournament is set to take place in Palo Alto, Calif. on March 7, 2020.
