TEMPE -- The Arizona State men's ice hockey team unveiled a new 'Sunburst' uniform on Friday morning that celebrates the 1975 undefeated Sun Devil Football team. The team will wear the uniforms for the first time on Friday, December 4, in game two of a series at Notre Dame.
Overview: The uniforms are a nod to the 1975 undefeated Sun Devil Football team captained by NFL Hall of Fame Cornerback Mike Haynes and Jim Heilig. The WAC Champions compiled a 7-0 conference record en route to an 11-0 regular season capped off by a 17-14 victory over Nebraska in Fiesta Bowl V. The Sun Devils finished the year 2nd in the AP and Coaches Polls.
Sunburst Logo: Worn during the Kush era on the football helmets from 1975-79. In those years, ASU Football compiled a 40-19 record (.678), beat UA 4 of 5 times and won 2 of 3 bowl games (1975 Fiesta Bowl, 1978 Garden State Bowl).
Helmet Logo: The Sunburst decal is purposely color mismatched to the helmet to maintain historical accuracy with the football helmet worn in 1975.
CCM Logo: On the rear of the helmet, the CCM logo is thrown back to the original red and blue mark used in 1975.
Sparky patch on shoulder: An ode to Sparky, who has represented Arizona State as the mascot since the early 1950's and was the primary logo for athletics until 2011.
Perforated Numbering: To bring together the full football jersey look, adidas perforated the numbers to look as much like the 1975 ASU football uniform.
Lettering: Classic font lettering for the names and captain's patches give the final touch and retro look for this 1975 throwback.
