TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Athletics is holding the first annual Sparky Showdown among student-athletes this fall to give them a chance to compete in various games and get to know their fellow student-athletes.

Sparky Showdown was born from the lack of competition in the fall due to COVID-19 precautions pushing the fall sports' seasons to the spring. This gives student-athletes a chance to flex their competitive muscles through tasks to earn points while they get to know some of their fellow student-athletes in other sports at the same time. The seven teams competing are made up of student-athletes from different sports, promoting unity throughout the Sun Devil family.

The competition varies from virtual competitions to weight room challenges. Each week, there is a new way for teams to earn points by working together. There is a sports performance challenge each week for one member of a team to accomplish, though the challenge will be different each time. All seven teams will also meet on Zoom once a week to face off in trivia or other games that can be played virtually.

Sports that have student-athletes participating are baseball, women's basketball, beach volleyball, lacrosse, softball, swim and dive, track and field, men's and women's tennis, triathlon, volleyball, water polo, and wrestling.
