He started it all as ASU's first NCAA men's golf individual champion nearly 40 years ago, and he keeps on getting it done.
Sun Devil Jim Carter -- the 1983 NCAA champion and current Scottsdale resident -- won the 24th Lone Star NGL Texas Senior Open presented by S & B and Vortech Contracting in Mont Belivieu with a 14-under 199 (66-70-63) on Friday.
The ASU Hall of Famer was tied for third entering the final round, but with five birdies on the front nine and three on the back, his bogey-free 63 gave him a three-shot win.

"I felt really good coming in. I started hitting some good shots, made some puts on the first day and the last day. The second day was a little iffy on the greens, but today made up for it. I felt good today. I just hit some good quality shots and then when you can make the putts, it builds a little momentum," said Carter. "And that's where it gets fun. And then you get a little nervous and a little adrenaline pumping, and so you have to try and not get too excited. I did a good job, so it worked out nice."
