TEMPE, Ariz. – No. 13/NR Sun Devil men's and women's swimming and diving are back in the friendly confines of the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center for a bout with No. 1/10 Texas. The meet is set for a 2 p.m. start on Friday and is free to the public.
With the season winding down to the end, ASU welcomes the Longhorns looking to replicate their 2018 upset of then-No. 1 Texas on the men's side. The Sun Devil men downed Texas to the tune of a 162-138 win in January of 2018. Zach Poti headlined the squad with two wins in the effort, sweeping both backstroke events.
The squad comes home after giving two of the top programs in the country a run for their money last weekend, with the men losing by a narrow eight points to Stanford in their final road trip of the season.
Several Sun Devils notched multiple wins on the weekend including Cam Curry (50, 100 free vs. Stanford) Zach Poti (100, 200 back vs. Stanford), Evan Carlson (500 free, 100 fly vs. Stanford) and Youssef Selim (1M, 3M vs. Cal). The springboard sweep for Selim is his third such feat of the season in just five dual meets of the season.
The meet is the second-to-the-last for ASU in the 2019-20 season, finishing up the season at home in the Territorial Cup Series meet against Arizona. As the season comes to an end, the men have raced to 32 B Cuts and one A Cut with the women putting up 27 B Cuts.
Youssef Selim has both also qualified for the Zone E Championships in March, with Selim qualifying for all three diving events to get the opportunity to advance to his fourth NCAA National Championship in four seasons as a Sun Devil.
The meet Friday meet that is free to the public will also be available on Meet Mobile and via live stream. Fans can also keep up with the action all season long by following @ASUSwimDive on Twitter.
