TEMPE, Ariz. — A rematch of an earlier season game in China, the Arizona State men's basketball team failed to get revenge this time, losing to the Colorado Buffaloes 68-61 Thursday night at home.
"I give Colorado a lot of credit," said head coach Bobby Hurley. "I thought they did a really good job. They are a really good defensive team and they showed it tonight. Anybody had their chance to take command of the game. We went empty. We had some turnovers and missed some free throws. We never were able to gain any momentum. A couple of our turnovers led to easy baskets for them. They kind of broke it open and we were fighting uphill from there."
Remy Martin led the team with 25 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Romello White put in a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Seven quick points for Martin gave ASU a lead until Colorado went on an 8-0 run to take a one-point lead. The teams continued to battle through to halftime, with the game being tied at 28 going into the half.
Martin led the team with 12 points and White finished the first half strong, putting out nine points.
In the second half, the Sun Devils started 2-for-19, quickly falling behind as Colorado pushed out to a double-digit lead after 10 minutes.
Arizona State eventually surged back to make it a five-point game, but the Buffaloes stopped ASU from making a comeback, going back up to a double-digit lead again as they went on to win.
The Sun Devils continue their Pac-12 home stand on Saturday with a matchup versus Utah at 7 p.m. MT on Pac-12 Network.
