RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – The Sun Devil doubles duo of Cali Jankowski and Tereza Kolarova defeated Virginia's Hunter Bleser and Vivian Glozman to win the East doubles title and headline ASU's weekend at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic.
Fresh off a top-10 upset in the semifinal round, Jankowski/Kolarova carried the momentum into Sunday's championship match and bested the Cavalier duo 6-4 to claim the title. The two Devils went 2-0 in their first outing as a pairing.
Jankowski went on to record a singles victory over Gomez of Baylor, 6-2, 6-4, and Kolarova handled another Baylor Bear, Linana, 7-4, 7-6(4).
The weekend tournament in California was ASU's first competition of the new year, and its last individual tournament before dual match play begins.
ASU will open its dual match season this Sunday with a double-header at Whiteman Tennis Center against Northern Colorado and in-state rival NAU.
