UPPSALA, Sweden – The 2020 European Ladies' Team Championship is doubling as a Sun Devil Women's Golf reunion, as three members of the 2020-21 roster will compete at the prestigious event Sept. 9-12 at Upsala Golf Club.
Linn Grant (Sweden), Alessandra Fanali (Italy), and Alexandra Forsterling (Germany) will represent their county and Arizona State at the premiere amateur team golf championship hosted by the European Golf Association.
"We are excited to see our golfers compete at the highest level for their countries," Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye remarked. "We wish them great success this week."
The stacked field of talented golfers includes six of the Top-10 in the current World Amateur Golf Rankings, including Sun Devil Women's Golf sophomore Linn Grant, who is No. 7 female amateur. 12 different countries will compete in the 36th edition of the European Ladies' Team Championship, as Sweden looks to match England's record of 10 total titles.

Grant has been a key part of the Swedish side that has won the championship the past two seasons. Alessandra Fanali joins Grant as one of two Sun Devils competing in the event for the second straight year. For the second consecutive year, at least three Sun Devils are competing in the event, with Sophia Zeeb (Germany, 2015-18) and Sofia Anokhina (Russia, 2019-20) appearing in the 2019 edition. Historically, Sun Devils have represented themselves well at this event. Azahara Munoz led Spain to the 2007 title, while a year later Anna Nordqvist and Sweden took home the crown.
The four-day event features Strokeplay qualification on Wednesday, which will determine the matchups for the first of three match-play rounds taking place Thursday-Saturday. In the team match play format, each team will compete in two single matches and one foursome. In the event of a tie after 18 holes, playoff holes will immediately follow until the match is decided. The first round begins tonight at 11:00 pm (MST), which is on the morning of Sept. 9 in Sweden. Alexandra Forsterling will be the first Sun Devil to start her round, teeing off at 1:20 am (MST) and mid-morning in Uppsala. She will be followed shortly after by Linn Grant, who has a 1:40 am (MST) tee time. Alessandra Fanali is the third and final Sun Devil to tee-off, scheduled to begin her round at 1:50 am (MST). The host country of Sweden with have the annual European amateur event at the Upsala Golf Club. The course was founded in 1937 making it the 22nd oldest out of 460 in the Swedish Golf Federation. The club has hosted several championships, most significant being the European Boys' Team Championship 1999.

A loaded roster awaits Forsterling, Fanali, and Grant when they return, as every member of the 2019-20 team comes back to Tempe. Four-time All-American and recent LPGA participant Olivia Mehaffey highlights the group, bringing an unprecedented resume. With highly-touted freshmen Ashley Menne and Breyana Matthews are added to the fold, the Sun Devils will boast one of the most talented and deep rosters in the country. Under the direction of three-time National Champion Missy Farr-Kaye and newly-promoted Associate Head Coach Michelle Estill, the team will receive the proper coaching and guidance that it takes to succeed at the highest level.
