TEMPE, Ariz. -- Sun Devil Athletics has announced a partnership with brand marketing consultant and author Jeremy Darlow to help educate Sun Devil student-athletes on ways to develop and capitalize on their personal brand. 

"Providing our student-athletes with every opportunity to further themselves both athletically and professionally is our main goal and responsibility as an athletic department," said Vice President for University Athletics Ray Anderson. "This partnership, in tandem with our championship life curriculum, furthers our commitment to preparing our student-athletes for their career after college." 

"Arizona State University is, and always has been, at the forefront of player development," offered Darlow. "ASU understands that personal branding is not about how many Instagram followers you have, it's about building a plan and a reputation that sets you up to succeed in life after the game. Together, we're going to make a difference in the long-term future of these student-athletes. It's an honor to call the Sun Devils a partner."

Through the partnership, Sun Devil student-athletes will have access to "The DARLOW Rules" program, which features short, easy to understand video based lessons teaching athletes from every sport the fundamentals of brand development and communication.

"Today, more than at any other point in history, athletes have the opportunity to build personal brands that transcend the sports they play," said Darlow. "Thanks to the exposure and influence offered by social media, these young men and women can now control their own brand destiny.

Started in 2015, Sun Devil Athletics introduced the Championship Life program within the Office of Student-Athlete Development, which is a four-year comprehensive program that prepares the student-athletes for life after college. The internal program provides insight into entrepreneurialism, financial readiness, internship opportunities and professional placement.

"The goal is to teach athletes how to build personal brands that set them up for success in life, regardless of what happens in sports," added Darlow. "Too often athletes are defined entirely by their athletic careers without developing influence in other areas of passion. My goal is to change that." 

By the end of the course, students will have built their own brand marketing plan, employing the same planning techniques used by Darlow over the course of his extensive career in sports marketing. Additionally, each graduating student will receive a certificate of completion to include on their professional resume. 

Darlow is a brand marketing consultant and author of best-selling books "Brands Win Championships" and "Athletes are Brands Too". Over his career, he has worked with schools like Notre Dame, Michigan, Colorado and UCLA; athletes that include Aaron Rodgers, Kris Bryant, and Lionel Messi; and celebrities such as Kanye West and Snoop Dogg. He helps college athletic programs, coaches and athletes build and elevate their brands to elite levels.
