TEMPE, Ariz. - Sun Devil Athletics Director of Nutrition, Amber Yudell, earned an award from the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association (CPSDA) during their 12th annual conference, announced on Wednesday. Yudell is one of only four award winners and the only recipient representing a collegiate athletic department.
The CPSDA states that each award recognizes those making a positive, undeniable impact in their respective categories. Yudell earned the CPSDA Perseverance Award, which recognizes individuals who exemplify the highest quality care to athletes and for extraordinary dedication to the profession and CPSDA.
"Receiving this award is an incredible honor. To be recognized by CPSDA is a reflection on the support our SDA administration, coaches, staff, and student-athletes have put toward sports nutrition," Yudell said.
"In my six years here we have made great strides in creating a sports nutrition program focused on championship performance of our student-athletes. I am proud too that, in the interest of what this award represents, we still have more goals to accomplish."
Over the last ten years, Yudell is the second CPSDA Award recipient from a Pac-12 Conference school - the first winner represented the University of Utah and won in 2015.
The CPSDA is a member organization representing the vast majority of advanced practice registered dietitians in the United States who work full-time with athletes in colleges, professional sports, Olympic training centers, the U.S. Military and law enforcement.
In early April, Yudell was elected to serve on the CPSDA Board of Directors.
Yudell spearheads the sports nutrition department for Sun Devil Athletics , which works to impact ASU student-athletes' health and performance through individual performance and medical nutrition counseling, team education, and coordinating feeding and fueling strategies.
Amber received both her bachelor's and master's degrees in Kinesiology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. During her graduate work, she also completed her dietetics study, and after that, she completed her dietetic internship through the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Her work as a sports dietitian includes time with the University of Florida and the University of Georgia.
