Sun Devil Nation,
As we continue to navigate these unprecedented times, the last several weeks have provided a unique opportunity for our student-athletes, coaches, support staff and even me, to spend quality time with loved ones. While we all miss the competitive nature of sports right now, we hope you're making the most of your time with loved ones.
Typically the beginning of May symbolizes that the end of the regular season is near for spring sports. With several of our sports programs highly ranked in early March, we would be anticipating postseason berths on the horizon. This time of year also signifies graduation for many student-athletes. Although we are disappointed we won't be able to celebrate our graduating student-athletes' academic accomplishments in person, we have made alternate plans to honor them. We encourage all Sun Devil fans to view our abbreviated Stole Ceremony, which will be posted on thesundevils.com May 11, as we honor all of our graduates.
I'm sure many of you have read, the NCAA approved another year of eligibility for spring sport seniors wishing to return next year. Institutions across the country are all dealing with this in different ways. We, however, believe the right thing to do for our student-athletes is to accommodate those who wish to return and finish their senior seasons of competition. We have over 20 senior student-athletes who have expressed their intent to return, and while the financial impact will be substantial, we strongly believe they deserve the opportunity to finish out their collegiate careers and don the maroon and gold one final season. Our staff continues to strategize how we can fund these extra scholarships so please expect to hear from your Sun Devil Club representatives in the near future about how you can help these student-athletes succeed.
Thank you for your continued support of Sun Devil Athletics. We wish you continued health and hope to see you soon.
Go Devils!
