FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Zach Poti successfully defended his 100 back Pac-12 title and three other individuals took a place on the podium on night three of the 2020 Men's Swimming Pac-12 Championships. Poti's time of 44.14 in the prelim secured him the Pac-12 Championship record, a school record and was just 65 one-hundredths off the NCAA and American Record.

"Our young team really stepped up tonight," coach Bob Bowman said. "With four of the eight finalists in the 200 free, we had two freshmen (Jack Dolan and Julian Hill) on the podium."

Ben Olszewski kicked off the morning action in the 400 IM, racing to a seventh place finish to claim his spot in the championship final. Jack Edgemond, Noah Scheuermann, Alex Colson and Jackson Etter all took spots in the consolation final.

Each returned for the evening finals, and Olszewski added 13 points to the Sun Devils with his sixth place finish. Edgemond (10th), Scheuermann (11th), Etter (12th) and Colson 13th rounded out ASU in the event. Olszewski's time of 3:44.62 broke the 12-year title set in 2008.

Cody Bybee and Evan Carlson were up next in the 100 butterfly, taking first and sixth, respectively. Bybee's time of 45.48 set the Arizona State record in the event, but he later reset his own record in the finals, touching the wall at 45.19. Carlson ended up in seventh overall at 46.24.

Four Sun Devils made up half of those qualifying for the championship heat of the 200 free prelims, as Jack Dolan (first), Carter Swift (fourth), Julian Hill (sixth) and Andrew Gray (eighth) all secured their spot in the top heat. Liam Bresette missed the mark by less than two tenths of a second, placing 11th in the prelim to reserve a spot in the consolation heat.

The men returned as Dolan and Hill made up of the three podium spots. Dolan finished at (1:33.29) for second place while Hill (1:33.56) placed third in the event. Swift finished just behind them in fourth while Gray (seventh) and Bresette (10th) rounded out ASU.

Two represented ASU in the 100 breast, as Elijah Warren (11th) and Aaron Beauchamp (12th) scored points for the Sun Devils in the finals.

Poti stepped up next in the 100 back, defending his 2019 title in the process. Poti achieved several milestones with his morning swim, taking home the Pac-12 Championship Meet Record, the Arizona State record and was less than one second shy of the NCAA and American record. Noah Henry (12th) and Robert Pearce (15th) also placed in the championship session.

"Zach Poti, fresh off a Pac-12 Championship record in the morning, defended his 100 back title and then led off a relay that is currently the No. 2 time in the country," Bowman said. "Sophomore Cody Bybee shattered the school record he set this morning to finish second in the 100 fly. We had great energy and look to keep the momentum going tomorrow."

Another podium finish rounded out the night, as the 200 medley relay squad took home second place with their time of 1:22.75. That time secured them the Arizona State record as well.

The Sun Devils are back in action tomorrow morning at 12 p.m. MST for the preliminary rounds of the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast and 200 fly. Fans can keep up with the action all season long by following @ASUSwimDive on Twitter.
