SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Sun Devil swimming and diving's Jack Dolan and Youssef Selim were on the list for a Pac-12 postseason award, with Dolan being named the Freshman Swimmer of the Year and Selim named Diver of the Year. The freshman of the year is the second such for a Sun Devil in program history while Selim is the ninth Diver of the Year from ASU.
Dolan garnered the most points by a freshman at the 2020 Pac-12 Men's Swimming Championships, taking home 43.5 points as an individual and 33.5 points as a part of the ASU relay squads to total 77 points. Several other Sun Devil underclassmen topped that list including Cody Bybee (fourth-most points) and Carter Swift (sixth-most points) in the top 10.
The freshman raced in the "A" Final of every single individual event he entered in, highlighted by his second-place finish in the 200 freestyle. He also took fourth in the 100 free and seventh in the 50 free.
Looking at the current top times in Division I Swimming, Dolan had the chance to score points at NCAAs for the Sun Devils, as his time of 42.32 in the 100 free is the 16th-fastest time in the nation and his time of 1:33.29 in the 200 free is the 19th-fastest time in the nation.
Selim is the ninth Sun Devil in a storied history of ASU Diving to become the Pac-12 Diver of the Year. Three others preceded the Egyptian to earn those honors in four-time honoree Joona Puhakka, two-time honoree Micky Benedetti and two-time honoree Riley McCormick. Selim is the first ASU diver to garner the award since McCormick in 2011.
The honor is well-deserved, with Selim capping off his Sun Devil career with yet another successful year. After taking second in the one-meter, fourth in three-meter and fourth in the platform at the conference championships, Selim earned bids to NCAAs in all three diving events at the Zone E Championships earlier this month.
He was set to compete in all three events for the third-straight season and secured a ticket to NCAAs in all four years as a Sun Devil. According to College Swimming's list, Selim had the highest score in Division I Diving in platform, fourth-highest in one-meter and 15th-highest in three-meter to cap off another dominating season.
