BERKELEY, Calif. – With a win to end the day, No. 19 Arizona State beach volleyball finished the weekend with a 5-0 setback at No. 11 California before taking down Pacific, 4-1, at the Clark Kerr Sand Courts on Sunday.

Arizona State (3-3, 0-2 Pac-12) has a .500 record in 2020 after splitting the matches today. The Sun Devils' losses this year have all come against ranked opponents, a trend continuing from 2019. They have taken care of business against teams who are not ranked.

Sophomore Emily Anderson and freshman Sarah Waters played well for ASU. They took their first match against Cal to three sets, the only pair for Arizona State to steal a set. Then they won their second match of the day in straight sets.

The Sun Devils put together a few new pairs in both of Sunday's matches. Against the Bears, Ellyson Lundberg and Kara Woodard played together for the first time. In the win over the Tigers, Woodard teamed up with Maddy Salazar and Lundberg paired with Cierra Flood, both pairs winning their matches.

Game One – California 5, Arizona State 0
With two courts at the Clark Kerr Sand Courts, the dual started with the fives pair and the exhibition pair. Cal took the early 1-0 lead after Cierra Flood and Lauren Weintraub dropped their match. The next wave featured the threes and fours, with the Bears winning both of those in straight sets as well to clinch the match. Emily Anderson and Sarah Waters won their first set, but dropped the next two.
