TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State University football will have wide receiver Kyle Williams honored at the 39th Annual Scholar Athlete Awards Banquet hosted by the Valley of the Sun Chapter of the National Football Foundation. Williams, a member of the 2020 senior class, was named a 2020 NFF Chapter Scholar-Athlete for his excellence in academics.

The 39th Annual Awards Banquet will take place on Saturday, April 4th at the Hilton Scottsdale Resort and Villas. It will be a mid-afternoon affair, with a reception and raffle beginning at 12:30 p.m., followed by the formal awards program/dinner at 2:30 p.m.

Williams has a long history of involvement as a football student-athlete and an engaged member of the community. Majoring in Biomedical Engineering and part of the prestigious Barrett, the Honors College, Williams recently won the Pat Tillman Outstanding Academic Achievement Award at football's annual awards program.

An aspiring surgeon, Williams interned at the Mayo Clinic under the guidance of Dr. Anikar Chhabra in addition to being selected for the 2018 Academic Pac-12 All-Conference Second Team and 2019 Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll. He was also named a Semifinalist for the 2019 William V. Campbell Trophy, which recognizes the best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance, and exemplary leadership.

Williams has boasted a productive four seasons with Sun Devil Football, catching a pass in 41 consecutive games, the third-longest streak in ASU history. He is tied for sixth in the Pac-12 for most games with a reception since 1996. With 161 career catches, Williams is in seventh-place on the ASU career receptions list. Williams reached the 40-catch mark each of the last three seasons. He also recorded 1,674 career receiving yards, mostly out of the slot, with 11 touchdowns and 46 rushing yards.

Along with his recognition at ASU, Williams is one of the most effective blockers at the wide receiver position in the country. During his senior season, Williams caught 45 passes for 482 yards and two touchdowns. His 7.3 yards after the catch per reception are seventh-most among Pac-12 receivers and his 329 yards after the catch are 10th in the league.

The Valley of the Sun Chapter National Football Foundation and Fiesta Bowl Charities 2019-2020 Scholar Athlete Class is nominated by their coaches.  These football scholar-athletes represent over 250,000 students from 186 high schools and colleges in central and northern Arizona and were selected on the criteria of academics, football accomplishments, and school and community citizenship and participation.
