COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 18 Tim Ruehl/Andrea Bolla defeated the No. 1 doubles pair in the nation as Sun Devil men's tennis fell to No. 2 Ohio State Friday evening. ASU dropped their match with the Buckeyes 7-0 at the OSU Varsity Tennis Center in Columbus.
OSU went on the advantage for the doubles point first, taking a win on court two to begin doubles action. Ruehl/Bolla evened things up, downing No. 1 Robert Cash/John McNally to the tune of a 6-4 victory to even the advantage. The win is the second against a ranked opponent for the pair, with the first coming with a 7-6 (5) victory over No. 19 Emile Hudd/Luke Hammond of Oklahoma State.
The freshman duo of Christian Lerby/George Stoupe played their best effort on court three against the Buckeyes, battling to a 6-6 tie in the matchup. The pair eventually fell in the tiebreaker game 7-3, giving OSU the 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.
Facing off against four ranked players out of six total in singles play, the Sun Devils dropped matches on courts three and one to go down 3-0. The Buckeyes sent two players ranked in the top-25 in the Oracle/ITA Divison I poll, with all four players taking top-70 spots for OSU.
The Buckeyes finished with wins on courts four, six, two and five to secure their 7-0 victory this evening.
