SEATTLE – Arizona State earned two first-place finishes and seven other athletes scored for the Sun Devils Friday on the first day of the MPSF Championships in Seattle.
The Sun Devils began the day by scoring nine points in the weight throw with redshirt freshman Shelby Moran and All-American Kaylee Antill finishing with top-5 efforts. Moran finished fourth in the event with a score of 18.85m/61-10.25, while Antill earned fifth place with a mark of 18.81m/61-08.50.
For Antill, it was the senior's four consecutive all-MPSF honor, and the newcomer Moran tallied her first-ever points at the indoor MPSF Championships.
In the pole vault, ASU saw its first top-three finish of the day come from freshman Sevanna Hanson, as she secured a score of 4.10m/13-05.25. The bronze finish is the first all-MPSF honor for the Phoenix native.
Junior Katie Eidem added two more points to the team score after placing seventh in the Pentathlon, putting the Devils in second place with 17 points.
Senior Josephine Anokye sprinted her way to a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 23.76 – Anokye's fastest 200 time of the season. The 10 more team points positioned the Sun Devils in fourth place after day one at the MPSF Championships.
The first men's points on the day came on pole vault from Cole Riddle. The redshirt sophomore notched his first-ever top finish on the vault with a score of 5.37m/17-07.25.
Austin Kratz followed on the track with a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.46, adding five more team points to the team score.
The medley relay wrapped up the day for the Sun Devil men's team, finishing with a top-four performance in 9:49.24. After the final event of the night, ASU was spotted in fifth place with 20 team points.
