SAN FRANCISCO – Arizona State gymnastics freshman Hannah Scharf was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week after a stellar meet last Sunday, helping the Gym Devils to their best team score since 2006 in a tie with No. 13 Washington.
This is the first freshman of the week nod for ASU (4-6-1) since Cairo Leonard-Baker won five times back in 2018. For the Sun Devils, this is the second Pac-12 weekly honor of 2020 after Morgan Wilson earned the Pac-12 Coaches' Choice of the Week award back on February 5.
Scharf had a career performance against the Huskies as the Gym Devils scored a 196.875, the best team score since 2006. She earned career highs on bars (9.800), beam (9.850) and in the all-around (39.350). Additionally, she did not score below a 9.800 in any event, helping her secure a share of the all-around title.
The Sun Devils earned season-high event totals on in all four rotations against the Dawgs. On vault, bars and beam, no score below a 9.800 needed to be counted. The 196.875 event total is the 18th best score in program history.
