COLUMBUS, Ohio
--- No. 24 Sun Devil women's tennis picked up the first match of the weekend against No. 38 Kentucky, sweeping the Wildcats in straight sets, 4-0.

Doubles walked away with their third-straight doubles win after capturing wins on court 1 and 2, while sweeping singles on courts 3, 2 and 6.

"I'm really happy with today's performance. Kentucky always has a strong team and I thought once we pulled out the doubles point, we got off to strong starts in our singles matches and never looked back," said head coach Sheila McInerney. "Sammi and Tereza were super solid and got off the court quickly, which led the way for Savannah to clinch the match soon after. I thought it was a great team effort today and I know the team is excited to play a very good Ohio State team tomorrow."

Despite dropping the first doubles match on court 3, it was all ASU from then on as Ilze Hattingh and Tereza Kolarova on court one and Savannah Slaysman and Cali Jankowski on court two battled back for the Maroon and Gold.

On court one, ASU's top junior pairing Ilze Hattigh and Tereza Kolarova changed the momentum and landed on top with a 6-4 match win over the Wildcats' pairing. With doubles play up for grabs on court two, Sun Devil pairing Cali Jankowski and Savannah Slaysman battled against Carlota Molina and Diana Tkachenko. The Sun Devils went back and forth, pushing the game to a final set point to win, 7-6.

Having the doubles advantage, the momentum continued onto singles sets with the Sun Devils sweeping Kentucky on straight sets. After winning her doubles set, Kolarova swept Wildcat opponent Molina 6-1 in both sets on court three.

No. 120 Hampton handled business on court two, defeating Lesedi Jacobs in both sets 6-1. No. 91 Slaysman then completed the sweep against Anastasia Tkachenko, winning the first set 6-2 before battling in the second with a 6-3 to clinch a Sun Devil victory.

Courts 1, 4 and 5 went unfinished in the afternoon match.

The Sun Devils will be back on the court Sunday, February 23 against No. 8 Ohio State at 12:00 p.m. MST. ASU will return home Feb. 28 for a doubleheader against Texas Tech and Cal Poly at Whiteman Tennis Center. The first match against the Red Raiders is set for 11 a.m. MST followed by a 3 p.m. MST match vs. Cal Poly.
