Following Arizona State's third place finish at the 16-team UCSD Triton Invitational last weekend, the Sun Devils swept the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation weekly honors with Borbala Kekesi named Player of the Week and Eszter Kiss named Newcomer of the Week, as announced by MPSF on Tuesday.
Kekesi was ASU's leading scorer over the weekend, totaling 12 goals in four games at the tournament. She opened the weekend with four goals in a 9-3 win over Cal State Northridge, scored three goals in a 10-9 upset win over No. 5 UC Irvine and added three goals and two assists in the team's second upset of the weekend, a 13-8 win over No. 7 UCSD.
Kekesi is second in the MPSF leaderboard in four statistical categories thus far this season - goals (34), points (41), goals per game (3.09) and points per game (3.73).
Kiss compiled seven goals in four games at the UCSD Triton Invitational, including a season-high three goals in the 10-9 upset over No. 5 UC Irvine. In the 13-8 upset over No. 7 UCSD, she had one goal, two assists and two steals.
Kiss is tied for second in the conference in steals (14) and holds sole possession of second place in steals per game (1.27).
This is the first time that a Sun Devil has earned MPSF weekly honors since March 7, 2017 (Lena Mihailovic) and the first time ASU has swept the MPSF weekly honors since March 22, 2016, when Mia Rycraw earned Player of the Week honors and Maud Koopman was named freshman of the week.
ASU has this weekend off before heading back to California for the UC Irvine Barbara Kalbus Invitational Friday-Sunday, Feb. 21-23.
