TEMPE – Arizona State's scheduled match with the Oklahoma Sooners on Feb. 8 has been canceled, coach Sheila McInerney announced Monday.
The second leg of a two-year home-and-home with the Sooners was called off Monday because of the Sun Devils' admittance into the ITA Indoor National Championships, scheduled to take place in Chicago Feb. 7-10.
It is the first time the Devils will play in the indoor tournament since the ITA initiated the Kickoff Weekend play-in format more than a decade ago.
ASU will be one of 15 at-large programs joining the hosts Illinois at the prestigious indoor tournament. Outside of the Illini, all 15 programs had to advance to the championship by winning their respective regions.
The Sun Devils found themselves in the Nashville regional where they matched up with and defeated Northwestern, 4-2, and No. 9 Vanderbilt 4-3.
ASU will join defending national champions Stanford, Texas, Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Virginia, Duke, North Carolina, Michigan, North Carolina State, Pepperdine, UCLA and the hosts Illinois in Chicago Feb. 7-10 for the ITA Indoor National Championships.
