KNOXVILLE, Ten.. – No. 25 Sun Devil men's tennis opened up day one of the 2020 ITA Kickoff Weekend today, falling to No. 16 Tennessee 4-0 at the Goodfriend Tennis Center. With the loss, ASU will take on No. 14 Oklahoma State in the consolation match tomorrow.
The Volunteers began the afternoon taking the doubles point after the Sun Devils dropped matches on courts one and two.
Looking to regain the advantage in singles, ASU sent six to the courts for singles in Makey Rakotomalala, Andrea Bolla, Tim Ruehl, Christian Lerby, Tom LeBlanc and George Stoupe. Stoupe came out strong for the Sun Devils, taking a 6-4 first set win to begin his match.
Several others rallied back to second set victories to force third sets in Bolla (6-4), Ruehl (6-0) and LeBlanc (7-5). The Volunteers took a straight set win on court one to make the score 2-0 and extended their lead to 3-0 with a win on court four. They secured their victory with a win on six.
