POTSDAM, NY – For just the second time in six overtime opportunities this season, No. 13 Sun Devil Hockey fell in the extra five-minute session, as No. 8 Clarkson walked it off a minute and a half into the overtime period at Cheel Arena.

Sophomore goaltender Evan DeBrouwer was spectacular, posting 42 saves and 40 in regulation for his third 40-plus save performance this season. Junior forward James Sanchez netted his ninth of the season and his fifth-straight game with a point.

"I felt like we played a good road game. Our guys battled, and I told them after the game they just made one more play than we did. That's a tough team and a tough place to play, and our guys battled their butts off. We didn't get the result we wanted, but now we know exactly how we need to play tomorrow to get the result we wanted."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Moments after Johnny Walker rung one off the crossbar, Clarkson got on the board first three minutes into the game as a shot from above the left circle was tipped in front by Arizona Coyotes draft pick Anthony Romano that just trickled inside the far post.
  • Forty seconds after a big pass breakup by Walker on a 3-on-1 Clarkson rush, linemate James Sanchez tied the game up at one with a tip of his own in front with 7 minutes and change remaining in the 2nd period.
  • Several ASU scoring chances just couldn't find twine while DeBrouwer continued to make big saves to help force overtime.
  • Over a minute into the extra frame, a wraparound attempt produced a rebound and Jack Jacome got net-front position to punch home the game-winner.

GAME NOTES
  • With his goal in the 2nd period, James Sanchez now has points in five-straight games with three tallies and two assists.
  • Sophomore defenseman Josh Maniscalco now ties his collegiate long for consecutive games with a point with two goals and four assists for a four-game point streak.
  • Goaltender Evan DeBrouwer made 42 saves in 62 minutes of action, and 40 in regulation for his third 40-save game of the season. It's the second-highest total after his two, 44-save performances earlier this season – one coming in another overtime game.
  • After going 4-0-1 in five overtime games in 2018-19, the Sun Devils are 1-2-3 in overtime games in 2019-20. Overall, ASU is 9-5-12 in overtime games all-time.
  • It was the fifth time this season the Sun Devils committed a season-low two penalties.
