CORAL SPRINGS, Florida – The Sun Devil Women's Golf team earned a spot in the Top 10 of a preseason poll for the third time leading up to the 2019-20 season, as the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) released their initial Coaches Poll.
Arizona State came in at No. 10 in the rankings, the same spot they occupied in the Golfweek Preseason Poll. Coach Missy Farr-Kaye's team was slotted at No. 7 in the Golf Channel Preseason poll, making them a consensus Preseason Top-10 team.
The Pac-12 is well represented in the WGCA poll, with USC taking the top spot and No. 4 Stanford joining them in the top five. No. 6 UCLA and No. 10 Arizona State make it four Pac-12 teams in the top ten. In total, the WGCA included seven Pac-12 teams in their Preseason Top 25.
Freshman Linn Grant and Senior Olivia Mehaffey have recently received several preseason accolades. Both Sun Devils were one of 25 female collegiate golfers named to the ANNIKA Award Preseason Watch List. In addition, Golfweek tabbed Mehaffey as a First Team All-American while Grant was selected as a Second Team All-American and a Top 10 Freshman to Watch.
The highly-touted duo joins forces with a trio of battle-tested performers, giving the Sun Devils one of the deepest lineups in the country. Junior Raquel Olmos along with sophomores Alessandra Fanali and Alexandra Forsterling have a year of experience under their belt and an appearance at the National Championship on their resume.
Arizona State's season kicks-off September 16-18, when they compete in the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M along with five other preseason Top-10 teams at Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo, Minn.
