TEMPE, Ariz. – The No. 8 Sun Devil Women's Golf team heads back to the Midwest for their second tournament of the 2019-20 season, competing in the Windy City Collegiate Classic at the Glen View Club in Golf, Ill.

After enjoying the week off following a successful season debut at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate, Arizona State prepares for another competitive field in the Windy City. The first two rounds of the event will be played on Monday, September 30 with the final round taking place on Tuesday, October 1. This past week, the Sun Devils moved up two spots in the WGCA Coaches Poll, now sitting at No. 8 in the country.

"Tomorrow we head to Chicago for the Windy City Collegiate Classic with a strong field," Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye remarked. "Northwestern will be hosting us at Glenview Club on the North Shore. The Sun Devils love competing in Chicago," Coach Farr-Kaye added.

THE FIELD
The Sun Devils will compete at the 12th annual Windy City Collegiate Championship, hosted by Northwestern Univeristy. As was the case for their first tournament, the Maroon & Gold will once again go head-to-head with some of the top teams in the country. The 15-team field will include ten Top-25 teams, highlighted by No. 3 Vanderbilt, No. 4 USC, No. 6 Florida, and No. 9 Duke. Rounding out the rest of the Top-25 teams are No. 11 Arizona, No. 14 South Carolina, T-No. 21 Michigan, T-No. 21 Northwestern and No. 23 Oklahoma State. The field is completed by Augusta State, Iowa State, Ohio State, Purdue, and Virginia.

THE LINEUP
With five extremely talented golfers on her roster, there aren't many decisions for Coach Farr-Kaye to make when setting her lineup. The same five that competed in the ANNIKA Intercollegiate will once again represent the Sun Devils. Olivia Mehaffey, Linn Grant, Alexandra Forsterling, Raquel Olmos, and Alessandra Fanali give Arizona State one of the most talented and deepest 1-5's in the country.
  ANNIKA Intercollegiate Lineup:
Olivia Mehaffey, Senior
Linn Grant, Freshman
Alexandra Forsterling, Sophomore
Raquel Olmos, Junior
Alessandra Fanali, Sophomore
Each team will complete two rounds on Monday, with the third and final round taking place on Tuesday.

THE COURSE
The Windy City Collegiate Classic hosted by Northwestern will be held at Glen View Club in Golf, Illinois, located about an hour and a half north of Chicago. The par-72/6,948-yard course is the second oldest 18-hole course in the Chicago area, opening back in 1897. Most recently restored in 2013, it has hosted the 1904 U.S. Open and the 1902 U.S. Amateur. Famous members of the club through the years include U.S. Presidents William Howard Taft and Warren G. Harding.

LAST TIME OUT
Arizona State began the 2019-20 season on a high note earlier in the month at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate. In what was considered the best field of any tournament in women's collegiate golf this year, ASU finished in fourth (+1/865) among the 12-team field, ahead of three Top-10 teams. Three Sun Devils finished in the Top-15, one of only two teams at the event to accomplish the feat. The highest finisher for the Maroon & Gold was freshman Linn Grant (-2/214), who finished strong by firing her best round of the tournament on the final day, moving up 11 spots into a tie for eighth. Just missing a spot in the Top-10 was Alexandra Forsterling (-1/215), who ended the tournament one stroke behind Grant for the best score on the team. She shot a 69 on the second day, tying the best round of her career. The third Top-15 finisher for Arizona State was Alessandra Fanali (+2/218), as the sophomore ended in a tie for 15th, the third-best finish of her young career. She made history on the first day of the tournament, recording her first collegiate hole-in-one on 16. Veterans Olivia Mehaffey and Raquel Olmos each showed flashes of brilliance throughout the event, helping the Sun Devils earn the fourth-place finish. Thanks to their fantastic showing in their first tournament, the Sun Devils were slotted at No. 4 in the first edition of the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.

HISTORY IN THE WINDY CITY
This is the third appearance for the Sun Devils at the Windy City Collegiate Championship, first competing in the event in 2015. A season ago, Raquel Olmos earned a career-best finish at this event, as she posted a 207 (-9) which was good enough for second place. Her second round score of 66 was a career-low, with her first collegiate hole-in-one coming on the 13th hole. The Sun Devils finished in second as a team thanks to Olmos' effort. During the 2017 edition, Olivia Mehaffey matched her career-low (65) in the first-round. Arizona State took home the team championship that year, with Linnea Strom and Olivia Mehafffey earning Top-10 finishes. The program has fond memories of the Windy City area, having won the 2017 National Championship in nearby Sugar Grove, Illinois.
