TALLINN, Estonia – Arizona State University incoming freshman Cohlton Schultz finished off the Junior World Championships by earning the silver-medal at 130kg/286 pounds, Saturday at the Tondiraba Ice Hall in Tallinn, Estonia.

The Sun Devil proved to be dominant all tournament long, earning his third medal in three years at the Greco-Roman World Championships. Schultz was relentless in his attack, outscoring his opponents 25-4 on his way to a runner-up finish.

Schultz ended the Junior Worlds with a matchup against Aliakbar Hossein Yousofiahmadchali of Iran, a 2018 U23 World bronze medalist and winner of the 2019 Asian Junior Championships. Schultz was able to grab the lead early, but the Iranian countered to edge the Colorado native, 2-1 in the championship round.

Schultz became the only Sun Devil to ever take home silver in the Greco-Roman style at the Junior Worlds for the 130kg weight class. Senior teammate Zahid Valencia was the last member of the Maroon and Gold to medal at the Junior Worlds, earning a silver medal back in 2017.

In the semifinals, Schultz was in a bout against China's Lu Zhang. Schultz made quick work of Zhang in the first period, pushing out to what ended up being an insurmountable 5-0 lead after a series of takedowns. Schultz ultimately earned the fall just over a minute into the match. He submerged a half nelson to finish off business, taking him only 1:42 to earn the victory.

To reach the semifinals, Schultz would have to go through Youssef Ahmed Hamdy Aly Issa of Egypt. Schultz began the match with the quick lead after scoring on a passivity point. Two eventual takedowns captured the 5-0 shutout win and a spot in the semifinals.

Schultz opened match play at the Junior World Championships with two straight technical superiority wins, that included a 10-2 victory in the qualification round against Hungarian's Dariusz Vitek - a former bronze medalist at the 2019 European Junior and 2019 bronze medalist at Junior Worlds. Schultz would move onto the quarterfinals after handling Aawesh Aawesh of India, 9-0.
