Tallinn, Estonia – Incoming Sun Devil freshman Cohlton Schultz prepares to compete for his third world medal on Team USA's Greco-Roman team at Junior World Championships, Friday in Tallinn, Estonia.
Schultz enters the Junior World Championships after placing second in Final X, and winning the Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament earlier this summer. He was also recognized as the nation's most outstanding male wrestler when he received the 2019 Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award. Schultz is the second Sun Devil to earn the honor in the past four years as fellow senior teammate Zahid Valencia took home the award in 2015.
Schultz is no stranger to success at World Championship events, taking home gold in the Greco-Roman Cadet World Championship in 2017 and earning bronze in the junior event in 2018. He also went on to compete at the World U23 Championships in 2018 and Junior World Championships in 2017.
The No.1 ranked recruit from the class of 2019 is set to take the mat Friday in a face off against Hungarian representative, Dariusz Vitek with the winner facing the winner of Ciprian Ilie Trufan (Romania)/Aawesh Aawesh (India).
The Greco-Roman Junior World Championships will span from Friday, Aug. 16 to Saturday, Aug. 17. Schultz' weight class schedule is as follows:
Friday, Aug. 16
10:30 a.m. local (12:30 a.m. AZ time) - Qualification rounds (Greco-Roman 55 kg, 63 kg, 77 kg, 87kg, 130 kg)
5:15 p.m. local (7:15 a.m. AZ time) - Semifinals (Same weight classes)
Saturday, Aug. 17
10:30 a.m. local (12:30 a.m. AZ time) - Repechage
6 p.m. local (8 a.m. AZ time) - Finals
*Tallinn, Estonia is 10 hours ahead of Tempe, Arizona.
