TEMPE, Ariz. – The Territorial Cup® Series Trophy is back with Arizona State after the close competition during the 2018-19 regular season ended with a tie and the Sun Devils' higher finish in the Learfield IMG Directors' Cup Standings gave them the win.

The year ended with a 10.5-10.5 tie between ASU and the University of Arizona. The Sun Devils earned points from football, men's basketball, women's cross country, women's swimming and diving, gymnastics, men's golf, baseball, women's tennis, men's tennis and women's outdoor track and field. The half point came from women's basketball. This is the fifth win in the last six years for the Sun Devils.

The tiebreaker was determined by the highest finish in the Learfield IMG College Director's Cup Standings. Though the final standings have not yet been released, Arizona State's strong presence in postseason play clinched a higher finish than Arizona. The Sun Devils received big boosts from Zahid Valencia's national championship with wrestling, women's basketball advancing to the Sweet Sixteen and men's hockey making their first-ever appearance in the postseason. Both golf programs also had strong seasons, registering more than 50 points, as well as the swimming programs bringing in a lot of points for ASU.

Arizona State earned many iconic wins over Arizona in the 2018-19 season. Football, men's basketball and baseball all swept the Wildcats for the first time since 1971-72. In the Territorial Cup® game, Sun Devil football was down 40-21 with 2:44 left in the third quarter and came back to win, 41-40, putting it up there with some of the most iconic games in the history of the rivalry. Baseball posted its first season series sweep over the Wildcats since 2009.

In men's golf, ASU has now finished better than Arizona in 13 of the past 15 Pac-12 men's golf championships, missing Territorial Cup® Series points only in 2011 and 2012, while the women's basketball program has now won 28 of the last 33 meetings against the Wildcats.
