TEMPE, Ariz. – After finishing the regular season with a 33-18 record, including a 13-11 mark in Pac-12 play, the Arizona State softball team will embark on their chase for the program's fifth-national championship in the 2019 Tuscaloosa Regional.

"We are excited to be back in the postseason," head coach Trisha Ford said. "We have gone through a lot this season, and have really overcome a lot to get to this point. I am just really proud of this group. To be a higher number two seed says a lot about this group and their grit, fight and determination."

The Sun Devils, who earned an at-large bid, will take on Lipscomb, winners of the Atlantic Sun Conference, Friday afternoon in the first round of regional-play. Host team Alabama will play Alabama State, winners of the South West Atlantic Conference, to open their regional play.

"It feels great to hear your name called," said senior Morgan Howe. "Last year going to the World Series was incredible. I chose to be here at ASU to go to Oklahoma City and I think this year we have another chance to do that with a very solid team. It is just really exciting to be a part of this again here at Arizona State."

This season marks the 31st- NCAA postseason appearance for the Sun Devils, and 42nd- overall appearance in postseason play, including appearances before the NCAA era.

"I think we have done a great job of ending our regular season strong." Ford said of her team's 8-1 record in the final three weeks of the season. "Stanford is a very very good team, as are Cal and Oregon. To go on the road, coming off a nine-game losing streak I think said a lot about our team's grit and determination. For us, I don't think anyone could be comfortable having to face us and I kind of enjoy that about our team."
