AUSTIN, Texas – Four All-Americans and a school record highlighted a successful first day of the 2019 Men's Swimming and Diving National Championships for Sun Devil men's swimming. The foursome of Grant House, Carter Swift, Evan Carlson and Liam Bresette combined for a school record and All-American finish in the 800 freestyle relay tonight.

"I'm very proud of our relay tonight," head coach Bob Bowman said. "We have over come adversity all year and to see them drop our ASU record by 2 seconds is a great way to start the meet."

The all-freshman/sophomore relay squad took the block in the second heat entering as the No. 16 seed out of 20 relays. ASU smashed that seed with a ninth-place finish at a time of 6:14.76, shattering the school record of 6:16.05 set at last year's National Championship.

Sophomore House took the leadoff spot in the relay, putting up a split of 1:32.74 good for the sixth-fastest 200 freestyle time in Arizona State history. Freshman Bresette anchored the All-American relay after sitting out a few weeks after battling illness.

"Special congrats to Liam Bresette who was knocked out of Pac12s by mono and returned here to give us a very solid anchor leg," Bowman said.

With the placement, ASU holds 18 points through day one.

On the agenda for the Sun Devils tomorrow is the 200 IM, 50 free, 400 medley relay and one-meter diving competition. Fans can keep up with the action all week-long by following @ASUSwimDive on Twitter.
